Promoting gender equality is essential to building inclusive and resilient communities in Uganda. Ongoing disparities in education, employment and leadership prevent opportunities for women and girls to succeed. This is why this initiative exists. It will work to break down these barriers; it does so through an emphasis on equal rights, fair representation and fair levels of responsibility across all sectors of society.
The Action Point Initiative serves to amplify advocacy efforts that address gender-responsive policy; this includes providing leadership training for women and girls, as well as through community dialogue to eliminate harmful practices, through a variety of activities, including mentoring, education awareness campaigns, and partnerships with educational institutions and employers to improve equal and equitable access and participation. Also through the integration of gender equality in education, vocational training and economic empowerment, the Action Point Initiative will create pathways for both women and men to contribute equally to national development.
The vision is to create a Uganda where women and men have equal opportunity; this includes creating environments in which girls can develop free from discrimination; and building communities that will thrive because of progress being shared across the entire community.
