In Uganda, there are many areas where people can’t get clean and safe water to drink. Because of this, women and children often have to carry large amounts of water for many miles from sources that are not safe. This project will provide sustainable clean water solutions that will improve health, lessen the burden on families, and help to build resilient communities.
The Action Point Water Initiative (API) is helping to provide clean water through drilling boreholes, installing rainwater catchment systems and repairing existing water supply points. These activities will include education of local water committees on how to manage the facilities, educating about hygiene practices and incorporating solar-powered pumping technologies for sustainable water supply systems. By reducing the need to use unsafe sources of water, this initiative will directly reduce the number of people who suffer from water-borne illnesses, freeing up time for education, economic activity and caring for families.
The goal is to have families with safe and healthy homes, empower women and build communities that have reliable access to the clean water they need in order to achieve their best potential. By developing safe water sources in Uganda, the country will develop a stronger base for education, economic development and sustainable development.
