Deep in the majestic Rwenzori Mountains, where mist rolls over verdant hills and rivers carve through valleys, a quiet but powerful transformation is taking root. In a region where deforestation and poverty have long threatened livelihoods, an inspiring force has emerged, Women Action Point Initiative (WAPI), a Community Based Organization (CBO) dedicated to empowering women through sustainable agroforestry.
Women Action Point Initiative (WAPI) is transforming the Rwenzori Highlands by empowering women through sustainable agroforestry. By providing seedlings, training, and economic support, WAPI enables women to grow cocoa, fruit trees, and vegetables—boosting income, improving nutrition, and restoring degraded land.
With over 16,000 trees planted and 5,000 women trained annually, the initiative is tackling deforestation, poverty, and food insecurity. As it expands, WAPI continues to prove that when women lead in conservation and agriculture, entire communities thrive. Planting fruit bearing trees and cocoa tree seedlings will encourage large-scale tree planting, absorbing carbon dioxide and mitigating global warming.
